Maths at the ILC is taught by an experienced Head of Department and a skilled HLTA. Students in our primary provision are taught numeracy as part of their individualised work. KS3 and KS4 students study the new national curriculum and teaching identified the gaps in learning to help students re-engage and gain more confidence in maths.
Some students study functional skills depending on their ability and other factors. Functional skills qualifications are recognised by further education providers and employers and can be more accessible to some students than GCSE. We try to encourage students to take their Entry Level 3, Level 1 functional skills qualifications either through the year to gain confidence, or sometimes as a back-up to their GCSE exams to maximise their chances of success.
Students in KS4 study the Edexcel Maths GCSE course and have MyMaths logins to encourage independent work at home.
